Balance our Facial Features with Rhinoplasty

rhinoplasty

Your nose is one of the most prominent features on your face, so if you’re tired of being dissatisfied with it, you’ve probably considered having a rhinoplasty. While the procedure is a legitimate surgery, it resolves a variety of cosmetic and physiological problems with the nose.

What a Rhinoplasty Fixes

When your nose is overly large, has a prominent bulge, it can throw off the balance of your facial features.

A rhinoplasty will correct your nose size (making it smaller), the width of the bridge, visible bumps or depressions on the bridge, and nostrils that are upturned. It also corrects deviated septums to clear the airway and allow for easier breathing in patients.

What the Surgery Entails

The doctor will put you under general anesthesia for both your comfort and your safety. If your nose job isn’t too involved and just involves some minor corrections, then you might get sedated with intravenous anesthesia instead of gas anesthesia.

There are two types of nose jobs: open and closed. An open procedure is when the incision is made on the strip of cartilage between the nostrils. A closed nose job’s incisions are made inside the nose.

Regardless of where the incisions are made, they allow access to the bones and cartilage underneath. If your nose needs to be reduced, bone and cartilage will be removed, and the remaining structure is reshaped. If depressions are being filled, cartilage may be taken from the cartilage separating the nostrils to fill them in.

If a deviated septum is being corrected, the surgeon will work to straighten it and reduce the projections that are making it difficult for you to breathe.

When the procedure is finished, the surgeon will pack your nostrils to allow the new structure to take hold, and a splint will also be placed over the top of your nose.

Rhinoplasty Risks

As with any surgery involving anesthesia, it’s possible you’ll have risks associated with the anesthesia. While the likelihood of any of these occurring is low, it is something to consider any time you go under the knife for elective surgery.
